12-Volt Models:

12248-AA-S1: Safe to use on all type and size Aviation Specific batteries, including both sealed and wet-cell constructions. The voltage settings and charge rates (both user selectable) have been chosen, after conferring with leading aviation battery makers in the U.S.

NEW! 12248-AA-S2: Similar to model 12248-AA-S1 except for its Plug ‘n Run feature, eliminating the need to set neither the output current nor battery type, before operating. This feature is of particular importance if any person, unfamiliar with the setting requirements, is involved in maintaining the battery.

NEW! 12248-AA-S3: A Specific charger-maintainer designed exclusively for Odyssey brand sealed lead-acid FAA-PMA Certified SBS-J16 and all other Odyssey 600 series sealed batteries. This model is officially approved by EnerSys, the manufacturer of the Odyssey – Hawker branded batteries.

Aviation-Specific Solar Models Provide Cordless Maintenance for all 12-Volt GA batteries

Preventing GA batteries from dying, when you can’t keep them on a plug-in maintenance charger, is no longer a problem. The BatteryMINDer® Aviation-Specific Solar Controller-Chargers deliver a safe maintenance charge to sealed or wet (filler cap) 12-Volt batteries. The units can be left connected to a battery without fear of overcharge.

These solar versions of the highly recommended Aviation-Specific BatteryMINDers* deliver the same charge and maintenance outputs as the plug-in except at lower current. With its “at-the-battery” temperature sensor, it is guaranteed never to over-charge aviation specific 12-V batteries such as those made by Concorde and Gill.

Aviation Consumer By providing each of these BatteryMINDer units with an “At-the-Battery” temperature compensating sensor, batteries can be safely charged and maintained for extended periods in temperature extremes from 32°F to 125°F. Without this type temperature sensing, batteries will be under-charged in colder temperatures (<70°F to 32°F) and over-charged in high temperatures (>80°F to 125°F).

AOPA Member All models include full-time pulsed de-sulfation circuitry designed to safely dissolve sulfation build-up on the battery’s storage plates, restoring lost cranking power and extending life. Our de-sulfation method is fully automatic, does not use potentially damaging high voltage and is exclusively protected by two U.S. patents. These units were designed in close consultation with the major U.S. manufacturers of FAA Certified Aviation Specific batteries, both sealed AGM and flooded (wet cell) types.

Why Aviation Specific chargers? Are aviation batteries different from automotive – marine types?

Aviation-specific lead-acid batteries, such as those made by Concorde, Gill and Odyssey utilize different components most notably the electrolyte mix (sulfuric acid + H2O). They do this to maximize the battery’s cranking power (amps) in order to minimize its size and weight. This and other differences change the charging requirements, dictating lower charge-maintenance voltages and the length of time needed in each of the three charging stages to ensure a full, 100% charge.

Using an aviation-specific charger on non-aviation type batteries will cause serious undercharge, dramatically shortening the battery’s life and performance.
