Description
IMPORTANT!!
All Aviation specific BatteryMINDer models are designed exclusively for use with either SEALED (AGM-non liquid) or Flooded (liquid w/ filler caps) as manufactured by Concorde, Gill and EnerSys (Odyssey, Hawker) for use on non-commercial aircraft specifically approved by FAA and/or PMA. ALL these types, regardless of manufacture are based on LEAD-ACID chemistry, NOT Nickel Cadmium, Nickel Metal Hydride, or any other chemistry-construction. If you have any doubt about the battery you intend to use with any of our BatteryMINDer products, please confirm these facts with the maker of your particular battery type.
BatteryMINDer® Aviation Specific Battery Charger Model 12248-AA-S1 BatteryMINDer Aviation-Specific 12-Volt 8A Charger-Maintainer-Desulfator-Conditioner VDC Electronics now has available Aviation Specific versions of its 12-V Maintenance Charger - De-Sulfator - Conditioners. Designated as the 12-V model 12248-AA-S1 (Aviation Specific) is safe to use on all type and size Aviation Specific batteries, including both sealed and wet-cell constructions. The voltage settings and charge rates (both user selectable) have been chosen, after conferring with leading aviation battery makers in the U.S. By providing each of these BatteryMINDer units with an "At-the-Battery" temperature compensating sensor, batteries can be safely charged and maintained for extended periods in temperature extremes from 32°F to 125°F. Without this type temperature sensing, batteries will be under-charged in colder temperatures (<70°F to 32°F) and over-charged in high temperatures (>80°F to 125°F). The model include full-time pulsed de-sulfation circuitry designed to safely dissolve sulfation build-up on the battery's storage plates, restoring lost cranking power and extending life. Our de-sulfation method is fully automatic, does not use potentially damaging high voltage and is exclusively protected by two U.S. patents. Presently only a small number of VDC dealers carry these -AA models. What is Sulfation (sul-fay-shun) and How Does It Affect Batteries? When batteries are improperly maintained (over-under charged or left uncharged for extended periods) small crystals of sulfuric acid from the battery’s electrolyte (liquid or paste) form on the battery’s charge plates. They act as a resistor (barrier) preventing the battery from ever again accepting a full charge, no matter how long a charging source may be connected. Once this occurs, the cranking power of the battery is severely reduced, as well as its life. Aviation batteries are affected the most because they have been designed for maximum performance in the smallest-lightest case possible. VDC Electronics has developed simple, but highly effective circuitry, able to safely dissolve sulfation, restoring much, if not all, of the lost power, providing the battery’s cells are not shorted or structurally damaged. This U.S. Patented approach is believed to be the most effective method for eliminating even the oldest hardened sulfate. By generating safe, wide-band, random frequency electronic pulses, we are able to cover the full range of sulfate crystals sizes, in the shortest possible time. Depending on the amount of sulfate and its age, complete de-sulfation can occur within several days to several weeks. De-sulfation takes place automatically, while the battery is being bulk or maintenance level charged. Note: Both BatteryMINDer models (12-V or 24-V) provide “full-time” de-sulfation. We guarantee to safely eliminate all sulfate from any non-commercial aviation battery meeting the criteria clearly stated in our Instruction Manuals.
What makes the BatteryMINDer® desulfation method unique?Sulfation (sul-fay-shun), the number one cause of early battery failures, can be safely reversed, using high frequency electronic pulses. Unlike other pulse type chargers that claim this or similar sounding features, VDC’s BatteryMINDers® use a range of high frequencies. This ensures both old and newly formed sulfation will be safely dissolved in the shortest possible time. Using just one fixed frequency may remove some, but not all, especially long established – hardened sulfate crystals. Our U.S. Patented methods are truly unique. We “dissolve” the sulfate rather than “destroying” or shaking it loose. By generating just the needed range of frequencies and avoiding high voltages, we eliminate potential damage to the batteries storage plates known as “flaking”. The sulfuric acid, the major ingredient in a sulfate crystal, can then easily pass into the electrolyte (liquid, gel or absorbed type). This immediately raises its specific gravity and frees the storage plates to now accept a fuller charge. It does this in the shortest possible time, without developing excessive heat. No loss of electrolyte takes place in this process, thus ensuring sealed batteries, as well as “wet”, never die due to loss of electrolyte. Several charger companies claim a battery will not develop sulfation, if it is always kept fully charged. This is incorrect. All lead-acid storage batteries will develop sulphate during their life time. This includes the new sealed “dry” such as Optima, Odyssey, Exide and Interstate branded AGM-spiral-wound types. Batteries develop sulfation each time they are used (discharged – recharged). If they are overcharged or undercharged or left discharged, some for even just several days, they will rapidly develop sulfate. Even when stored fully charged, sulfate will form, without a frequently applied maintenance charge. It must be charged enough to prevent the battery from dropping below 12.4-Volts* (2.07-volts / cell). Using or storing batteries in temperatures above 75°F accelerates the rate of self-discharge and increases sulfation dramatically. In fact, the discharge rate doubles, as does sulfation, for every 10°F rise above room temperature. In summary, if you want your batteries to deliver the very best performance and have the longest possible life, they must be kept free of sulphate by desulfating them in the safest, most effective way. BatteryMINDers’ U.S. Patented** method is this most effective way and VDC Electronics guarantees it with a 100% Money Back Guarantee plus a 5 year “no hassle” full warranty.
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you need a desulfating charger-maintainer. Remember, we guarantee their performance with a 100% Money Back Guarantee plus a five-year “no hassle”, 100% parts and labor or full replacement warranty. * At room temperature. Applies to 12-Volt or 2 series-connected 6-volt batteries.** U.S. Patent No. 6078166 *** Assumes you started with a new battery costing $85 - $150 and lasting at least twice as long as it would without desulfating it.
